I've heard many tales of people putting old flashes on modern cameras and it ending badly. But what happens if you do it the other way round?

Can I use my Nissin Di622 on an Olympus Trip 35?
 
The trigger voltage shouldn't be an issue since the trigger voltage of most modern dslr flashes are low in comparison to some of the older film flashes from days of yore. ( old flashes on new cameras however are not recommended without doing proper research and could fry your shiny dslr)
My only concern would be that the trip 35 has a single contact point in the centre of the hotshoe which is surrounded by a metal plate and the fact your Nissan has several contacts on the hotshoe could cause issues with shorting, maybe someone with more knowledg could tell us I that's an issue, I think probably not but best to be sure.

Modern flash on old body = fine, as long as it's not a TTL dedicated unit.
