Old Park Silver Rolling Mill was one of the first Mills to make Sheffield Plate, used by silversmiths to make such things as candlesticks, snuff boxes and coffee pots. The mill was established in the 1760s by Joseph Hancock who was the first to use water power for Sheffield Plate. It was badly damaged in the Great Sheffield Flood in 1864 and lost one of its mill shops which was rebuilt with insurance money. The mill went on to be one of the main silver rollers of Sheffield.

Bit sad really but interesting having seen the recent programme on Sheffield and the steel industry.
BTW thanks for the bit of history a narrative about the photos puts them in context and always makes them more interesting, unfortunately not a lot of people do it
