Bought a Sony Nex-5 which was ok but kit lens was pretty poor and didn't like various other bits about it (That will teach me not to handle cameras before buying) and took it back yesterday. The guy asked if there was anything i wanted to exchange it for and i said no as i wanted to look at the Olympus E-PL2 when it comes out. He then said that they just got them in so i had a fiddle and fell in love with it straight away. I managed to get a black one with the new 14-42mm silent lens and it is silent!!! Lovely camera to handle and loads of custom options if shooting Jpeg. If you like mono then the E-PL2 has loads of options for shooting in mono including built in colour filters. THe IQ is way way better than the NEX kit lens and is generally briliant! The AF is fast too, i was quite impressed.

Lovely retro looking camera that's worth a look!!:thumbs:

I have long looked at these micro 4/3 cameras but just can't live with the size of the sensor. x2 crop is just too much for my liking, especially when I would want to use it with my old OM lenses. I have tried my sister-in-law's E-PL1 and it just didn't do it for me.

Glad you like it though. ;)
 
The only downside with Micro 4/3 is the x2 crop but i just use wider lenses and zoom with my feet. :thumbs: This camera is the closest to a DSLR replacement i have found. Will i sell my DSLR...nope!:)
 
It can be difficult to zoom far enough back without dissapearing down a ditch with a 28mm OM lens on a x2 crop! ;) As for you not selling your DSLR, I am sure you will- if only to buy a different one (again!). :p

I am used to the 2x being an Oly user..

what are the menus like on the E-PL's? I have heard they are basic and lacking functions compared to the EP and I love my EP1; I ask because my son is looking at an upgrade for his Lumix Bridge next Birthday and I automatically thought of the EPL because of the flash but wouldnt be too keen on giving him a cut down version of what he already knows (I let him use my EP1)..
 
Certainly looks sexy that Andy. It says in your camera bag that you have an E-PL1 as well? How does the E-PL2 compare to the E-PL1? They both use the same sensor don't they? I've been thinking of picking up a cheap E-PL1 off e-bay to play with for a while.

They are easy and look naff but there seems to be a lot of options in there. I was fiddlin for quite a while looking at the different settings and options for stuff. The Mono filters and options are very impressive!

Years ago many of us had either a camera with a fixed lens or just one lens, something between 35 and 50mm, and MFT (in my case a GF1) makes a very good modern version when fitted with a similar lens, in my case a 20mm f1.7.

Understood, I have a voigtlander vf101 so understand fixed lenses perfectly well. I was just saying that these micro 4/3 are not for me as the purpose I would use it for (ie with my OM lenses) make it impractical. It is difficult to go very wide with these without spending a lot of money.
 
Here are a couple shots i took yesterday just to test the camera and IQ which i think is good especially as it's the 14-42 lens and not a Pany 20mm f1.7 (that's to come later)...

All Jpg's with little pp

1: f/5.4 1/100 ISO 320 @ 39mm


2: Focus was on the nose. f/5.3 1/80 ISO 200 @ 37mm

I see the new 14-42mm has a smaller again filter ring - at least it's a more normal size now! (How the hell they arrived at 40.5mm on the original I don't know!)

Is it capable of holding the weight of a filter now?

No idea I'm afraid. The lens feels just a tad better built that the last one.

Lets face it they'd have been hard pushed to make it feel worse! The focus motors used to stall in mine if there was afilter on the end! :lol:

Not Olympus' best lens eh? Hopefully the new one is more on par with the full 4/3 version - and jusdging by your pics it looks like it could well be:thumbs:.
 
It does feel nice!
