hi am torn between two cameras ... well three acutally i currently have a s9600 but i've been looking around and saw the above two... are the olympus or the f100fs worth upgrading to?
I believe the olympus is a DSLR, and is some 4 years old. The F100 fs, doesn't exist, I'm assuming you mean the 2 year old S100 FS. Quite an unusual choice, what made you chose those 2? Personally, I wound go for the new Fuji HS10, which offers a compelling zoom range, and many other features, and being a fuji, you will be used to the OS.
I wouldn't go with Olympus personally, never liked the quality of images. Plus it is quite an old model. I'd suggest you go and have a look and see what you fancy. I'd still have a good look at the HS10 though, it might be just what you're after, and for a lot less outlay.
I used to have an E-500 and its a fantastic camera, I inherited a Panasonic DMC-L1 from my Father which also uses the same lenses and so I gave the E-500 to my daughter and I use the Panasonic.
The E-500 is a great camera, the lenses are some of the best out around and can stand proudly with the other marques out there.
There are problems with the noise at higher ISO's with the 4/3 system but without Pixel Peeping you'd never know. My daughter uses hers a lot and looking through what she posts up on Facebook these days, she takes some great pictures. Always of course remembering that its you taking the picture and the camera is only the mechanism to record the image that you are trying to capture.
I also like the fact that you can use a lot of adaptors from Ebay and pick up the cheaper OM Zuiko lenses and use them on the 4/3 cameras of course you then have to learn to use the camera manually which if you're learning can enhance the experience. I use older OM, Nikon and Leica R lenses on my Panasonic.
Well...for that kind of money you should be able to squeeze in a Nikon D50 (great little camera, was my first digital, recently bought another) or a Canon 350D. Put those as your starting point, i.e, no older and you should be fine. There is a Nikon D60 in the classfieds, and I am actually getting rid of my 18-55 lens too..but do a bit of research.
Well the S9600 is an old camera, and a DSLR will give much better quality, plus will be much faster. Where does it limit you ? I have the S9500 (temporarily), and it is sooo agonisingly slow when flicking between photos and the like. But, you don't want to get in the mess I am, basically upgrading for upgrading sakes!
lol it takes ages to shoot when in the aperture mode and i mean like a minute ....then it takes it ...then it takes a decade to show you lol so annoying .....my older brother has been into photography years he's 49 and im only 22 he recommended that s9600... then the s100fs........so am little confused at the minute ....he's got the a550 by sony... but likes the f2 f3 f4 more ....gives me a big head ache
the xd card is a shocker its a Toshiba and when shooting in either takes a decade....yet the cf is a kingston bog standard and takes the jpegs fast and the raw in a fortnight
I'm currently selling a E-620 in the for sale section which is a much more up to date version of the e-500. Can vouch that the kit lenses are some of the best!
