Hi , anyone on here using an Olympus Stylus 1? Considering a bridge type camera for an up coming city break to Florence. I like the look of the Stylus 1 and just
wondered if anyone has one or experienced using one could recommend one or not. Reviews seem mixed but I like the style and size of the Stylus 1 but any users
opinions would be great.

I had one until I sold it back in April, which I later regretted as it was a handy wee walkabout camera. Size wise its closer to compact than bridge size.
It zooms to 300mm equivalent and the sensor size is 1/1.7 inch so its a bit bigger than normal compact sensor size. It also shoots raw.
I almost bought a secondhand one a few weeks back but had to return it as it wouldn't focus at 300mm. It put me off a bit although my original one was faultless.

Thanks for the reply canon_togger. Nice shot too. How did you find the IQ on the Stylus1? I like the thought of a constant F2.8 aperture and probably my dream would be the Sony RX10 or Panny
FZ1000 but my budget will never stretch to either of those. The other camera with the constant f2.8 is the Panny FZ200 but the smaller size of the Stylus 1 appeals to me for carrying around .
 
IQ was more than adequate, I tended to shoot raw and do pp in PS6.
I've looked recently at the other cameras you've mentioned. The FZ1000 and RX10 have 1" sensors but that means bigger camera to lug around.
For portability the Stylus is great, I wouldn't rule out getting another one myself in the future but I'd buy new again. There is an updated 1s version with some new software but you can buy the 1 and get the software installed via a download from Olympus site. It has focus peaking and a few other things as extras.
 
I sometimes think this type of camera is all most people really need. There is always a tendency to GAS but ultimately if you can carry a camera conveniently and have it with you that may be the deciding factor in getting 'that shot'.
 
The upgrade might explain why there are a few appearing on ebay in my kind of price range. :)

I always have this thought and been through more brands and types of camera than I can remember and most cases you will hit a situation where you wish you had a different camera. Moving subjects, zoom ring and super large prints are usually the main culprits.

I am now one of 'most' as I've been using an RX10 almost exclusively for the last twenty months. It lack dynamic range compared with the D7100 I was using but that's hardly surprising and the battery life is, err, poor. But I looked at the lenses I was using on the D7100 and realised that 24mm-200mm was all I needed. My back and right shoulder are much happier these days.....
