Along with many other people I'm at a loss as to which compact or csc to buy next :confused:

I've owned dslr, csc and compacts and through this (expensive) experience I now know that the smaller and lighter a camera is then the more chance I will have it with me when i really need it, as opposed to just my phone (iPhone 6Plus).

I'm really looking for a larger sensor camera (one inch being the smallest I'd consider) but would be open to discussion on this. Also, I think a viewfinder or evf is a must have as my last camera (a lumix gm1) didn't have one and this proved to be very frustrating in bright sunshine. Apparently, the flip out screen or totally articulated screens that some models have are just as good in sunshine as an evf but I would like to hear your thoughts on wether you agree with that or not.


To this end I've narrowed my choice down to the usual suspects (rx100, g7x etc.) but have had my attention drawn to a camera that I really don't know much about but quite appeals to me...the Olympus Stylus 1s. I know it has a small sensor but I don't want to completely disregard it before hearing what you're views were on it. I just wondered what everyone thought about it and/or if anybody had any hands on experience that they would care to share.

Just to really mix things up a bit I'm also considering a Sony a6000 as the aps-c sensor and fast af appeals to me too.

So, as you can see, I really am a little lost as to what to do for the best.

All thoughts/advice grateful :help:
 
It sounds like you need to go into a shop and have a hands-on session with a few of these!
For what it's worth, I bought my wife a Stylus 1 (practically identical to the 1s) a few months ago and she loves it. I use an OM-D E-M5 and the Stylus is like a mini version of that. It has a longer zoom range and better EVF than the rx100, g7x etc but is obviously quite a bit larger. It's still small and light but not trouser-pocket size!

Yeah go to a shop and try one. I have and liked it but my wife thought it was too big to replace the Olympus XZ-1 we have which produces great results. The EVF is nice on the Stylus 1.

Have you thought about the Panasonic GM5. The EVF is small though it feels nice to use I only tried it in a shop.
