Yes
Right Guys I cannot decide at all what camera to get!
It will be my first SLR and have £550 to spend around xmas time. I am currently looking at the Olympus E620 and Canon 500D, both are similar price and spec but obviously there are some features that one camera has that the other does not.
I have handled both of them and they both feel great in my hand and for me there is literally nothing between them.
So i leave it you you TP members... first to 10 votes wins and all other suggestions are welcome :D

Well there are a lot of lens that will fit the Canon so you have a bigger pick also the sensor is 12.3 million 4/3 " (18.00 x 13.50 mm, 2.43 cm²) where the canon is 15.1 million effective pixels 22.3 x 14.9 mm CMOS sensor
look at this review to help and teh olympus one

TBH i think the three makes to look out for that are best if you want to go pro are sony, canon and nikon. so in my view i would get canon.

Have tried out some Sony camers and i hate to say it but I really did not enjoy handling them. I can see why they are good cameras but afraid they are just not for me!

Canon ,better sensor, more lenses, lot more users so if you go on a meet you can bags a go with lots of lenses...............:D:p

Better Sensor - Depends what your shooting - each sensor has its advantages. The noise advantage is virtually non existant on the aps-c cameras, and the extra DOF on the 4/3 sensor (1/2 stop over aps-c) is nice when low light shooting / macro shooting is involved where shooting wide open can bring its own problems.

Lenses - Oly lenses are all sharp across the frame, even wide open. There might not be as many available, but they're all good. I've been there and tried them (Oly E-1 / E-3 / E-420 / E-30 / E-620) and they are amongst the best lenses out there. Better this than the 'lottery' when buying lenses for other makes ("Will i get a good 'copy'" etc) as i did when i had the 40D / 50D and the D700.

Given that many of my friends with Oly's are moving to Canon / Nikon then Canon is the obvious vote on this occasion

Your best bet is to get a canon and then go for some really good L glass. Obviously the lenses will need breaking in before they are at their best and I will selflessly volunteer to do this for you. Give me 5 or 6 years and they should be perfect for you.

Mike
