I need a small (short) tripod to take with me as carry on luggage, must be able to carry a couple of Kilo.

Any suggestions ?

I was thinking 450mm max, I dont mind taking the head off and reassembling. Doesn't need to be 7ft tall or anything daft mostly will be viewing through WLF and some 5x4 shots.
 
Not 100% sure but some airlines won't let you take a tripod as carry on, assume as it could be used as a weapon.

FWIW

I have rarely travelled with my tripod and the last I actually took on a flight was yonks ago and I recall I had to remove the then Slik 200 head and the tripod went in my suitcase diagonally to fit......................I never used it at all on that trip to Scotland :lol:
 
I can definitely recommend the leefoto ranger ls223c it’s extremely compact and well made and off the top of my head reaches around 300-400mm in height.

Airlines and security are two separate matters from what I understand.
Security checks and policies are common across Airlines, and conducted just the same before you board.

Tripods are allowed in carry on. It's always cleared security checks.
Now whether certain airlines will allow it is another matter. Never had an issue with traditional airlines but i guess even for budget ones if it fits within their anal allowances they'll allow it. I can't see them caring about anything else beyond how to squeeze more out of you

I have a small Slick Sprint Pro II, it fits in the small sports backpack in the image, along with a Crown or Super Graphic, Rolleiflex, etc.

You didn't mention budget... the Peak Design tripod folds down really small - about the same size as two cans of beer stacked on top of each other.

I haven't been keeping an eye on the market recently, but I expect that there are some other brands copying in now too.

I am very happy with my current manfrotto tripod but its too big for hand luggage, I want something that I will use for two weeks only them probably revert back to manfrotto, That's the long winded way of saying Fit for purpose but as cheap as possible. I keep thinking to myself if I spend a hundred quid its wasted and I could have bought a couple of boxes of film. How ever I don't want to waste the film so something decent is essential, say £100 for round numbers but 25 would be better.
 
I have a small Slick tripod similar to the one Ian describes that I bought many many years ago perfect for travel and can take the weight the issue can be of balance with a small tripod if you use a longer lens
Nowadays i just put my bigger tripod in the suitcase with hold luggage
The issue is hand luggage weight allowance would rather put a tripod in the the suitcase than have the tripod weight eat into the hand luggage weight allowance

I bought the Neewer LT32 carbon a few years ago, very similar in design with the really low sitting head (one of the reasons I went for it) to the PD travel, but about £200. The supplied head probably won't take that weight, but it comes with an alternative column you can stick any head on. Folds down to about 43cm which was one of the shortest as I wanted something to squeeze into my 30l Berghaus bag

I've gone from never carrying the tripod to it lives in the bag on most trips now. No corrosion from being put in the sea like my 'frot 055 carbon, and it doesn't wobbly bobbins like the Kenro I bought on a whim years ago that's hopeless in more than a 3mph breeze. It's also got threads for screwing in a small magic arm etc.

My only negative with it is center column end is an allen tool, but it's a two piece column, and they use different screw threads, so you can't just permanently run a short column with the allen key screwed into it and just leave the extension at home. neewer - 1.jpeg
