Ok i have a a450 without mirror lock up ! i have searched so many web sites for this info and im getting all kinds of input some say switch off sss when on tripod? some say doesn't matter?what is the real answer ? and will it make that much of a difference , i generally shoot landscapes,i was toying with idea of getting rid of a450 and getting one that has mirror lock up what do you guys think ! and what are your experiences:thumbs: (don't get me wrong my images are not that good that its important but if its going to make a difference then i don't want it to hold me back

Switch off as prescribed in the manual, but most time I forget to switch it back on afterwards.
 
use the 2 second timer in the drive mode.
Switch off sss when on a tripod as the camera moves the sensor an gets all confused.:thinking: Confused?:thinking:

No. In sony's implementation of live view, the mirror stays put.

As others have said, for optimum sharpness on a (presumably rigid) tripod, switch off SSS and use the 2 second timer (for MLU).

The a450 uses a different liveview system to the a350/a380/a390/a500/a550 and only has the one mirror, so I suspect it would work...
 
Or right ill try a bit of a test one with live view and one just manual how come its different to the once mentioned ?

Sony positioned the a450 differently in the lineup...it had the same sensor as the a550, but with a lesser liveview implementation, and therefore sold for slightly less.
 
So does that mean that the mirror does lock up when you engage live because thinking about it ,it seems to move something when it engages ?

Yep, the mirror must be up for liveview to work on the a450. The other Sony models have a second mirror which negates the need for this and allows the camera to AF faster in liveview mode.

Listen to the noise the shutter makes when take a photo in liveview. If the noise if a simple mirror down slap, then you don't need mirror lockup. If it's down, then up and down again, then the liveview isn't as useful as I thought :)
 
When I engage live view there's a slap., then when I push the shutter button it seams like a double slap? would I be able to take the lens if and see it at work !
 
So if that's the case and this camera doesn't have some type of mirror lock up would it be beneficial to go and invest in one that does ?
 
is it visibly causing you any problems or are you worrying about nothing?
afaik MLU is really only effective through a relatively small shutter speed range - something like 1/15- 1/60.
I'm assuming that you have a good, solid tripod & head, if not that may be a better way to spend money.
 
Or right so what in affect your saying is it will only make a difference at shutter speeds I think you might be right im worrying about nothing
