One Orchid, Two Backgrounds

A couple from today...playing with backgrounds

Both with natural light using the Canon 100mm f2.8 macro

C+C appreciated if you have time....

1) On Yellow

2) On Black

Black for me I find the yellow too bright and it detracts from the beautiful delicate detail in the orchid

Hi John, The yellow BG does nothing for me, but the phal itself looks more detailed than the one on the black bg.

You're making me itch to get flower shooting again John!

I've still got my birthday flowers, just need the time.

I actually quite like the yellow, it's different, I think the actual bloom is just a touch underexposed maybe and the yellow is winning over the subject perhaps.

Thanks for the comments folks, I'm torn between the two myself...and finding the yellow slightly more appealing 'cos its a bit different from my usual stuff

Wonderful details in the Orchid John... I love the one on Black, I think it brings out the finder colours in the flower more. The Yellow background has a lovely warm spring/summer feel to it though.

I so want to like the yellow but think it is overpowering the flower.
It looks beautiful but slightly boring on the black.

Black BG for me but I actually love your yellow BG with the different shades running through it... I just think it's a bit too in your face for the little flower.
