Online Backup - Who Or What?

Hi Everyone,

I am looking for an online backup system but haven't a clue who or what the best solution is.

Some of the things I am looking for are:

1. Must back up all users documents, settings, email, pictures and music.

2. Must run and backup automatically in the background, so if it notices a new file or one that has changed it automatically backs it up without any intervention from the user.

3. Must give an easy to understand visual indication of what is backed up and what isn't.

4. No limitation of online backup space

5. No limitation on bandwidth

6. Totally automatic from backup to restore.

7. Must not be a system resource hog

8. Good customer support

9. Doesn't cost the earth

I think that about covers it.

Anybody have any suggestion on a good and reliable service that meets the above criteria?

Doesn't cost the earth and unlimited space don't quite go together! I'd try livedrive as being reasonably close to all that lot. Space is unlimited.

Idrive is better value as you can have up to 5 workstations for $15 a month but storage space is limited to 500GB. But they do seem to keep versions so effectively you have more. It is fairly seemless but can be a bit resource hoggy unless you remember to have the auto throttle switched on. Then it is ok. Still a bit slow on my old imac but that is an ancient G5.

I use both of the above. Livedrive for server back up and idrive for client backup. Both seem to work pretty well.

The initial backup will be slow. Took a week or two to upload all the data for both macs so you need a decent broadband connection.

Don't touch the one virgin offer with a 10 foot pole. It is utter garbage. I have it free and just about everyone that has used it says it doesn't work and deletes files randomly!
 
Just to add I am looking for a windows solution and not a solution for a piece of fruit.

In reality I am looking at just under 10mb down and around 1mb up

I am looking at around 125GB of data

If you have Virgin 50mb you will have unlimited backup.

That said it isn't the most user friendly and isn't working for me any many others at the moment.

Previously I used Carbonite and found it excellent. There is a little green or red dot on the corner of files indicating whether a file is backed up or not. Storage is unlimited and if you shop around you should be able to find a discount code.
 
I use Carbonite, the first backup will take ages but after that it's unnoticable, i use it as an offsite failsafe to hourly system backups anyway so being instantanious isn't so crucial.
