Hi all,

Been chatting with a lady at work that is working on some project or other and they want to make a library of all their photos and documents online.

She was talking about needing several gigs of storage and for it to be viewable and downloadable by private access only.

Not sure I explained that properly!

Does this kind of starge/viewing/downloading facility exist? If so, what could you recommend?

Thanks

Rose

Take a look at dropbox and livedrive. They both offer facilities to upload lots of data and share it. I'm not sure how clever the sharing is and whether you can have multiple levels of access.

Smugmug allows passworded galleries so you can have private collections on there. I assume flickr would let you do the same.

There's also google docs and I'm sure facebook recently announced something about file sharing within groups. Whether I'd trust the latter with my data is another matter.

Windows live skydrive gives you 25GB free space you can share

You might find a lot of useful discussion on this subject has already taken place here. A quick search of the forum for 'online storage' brought back a similar, recent thread...

One of the biggest things to consider is how she would get her images into storage and how long that might take, taking into account the volume of files and upload speeds (if applicable).

Thanks for the help guys...have passed the info to my work colleague.

Well I signed up to Live drive as I need loads of space for my pics+vids+docs and so far I'm upto ~150GB and still going. I chose livedrive as there's unlimtied storage space.

I think they finally went with Flickr as apparrently it suited the clients needs with regards to preview/downloading.
