Opinions on Canon 5d Mark I ?

The 5D is still a stunning camera even amongst todays cameras, I'm upgrading mine shortly to a mkII but tbh the only reason I'm doing it is because of the video side of it.

Im sick of carrying my camcorder and camera around together or when i have one i ultimately need the other one or I wouldnt even think about it otherwise.

Get one!

As it's old technology the ISO performance won't gain you any 'stops' compared to the latest sensors - it's probably about the same, if not worse than say the 50d.

I'd disagree, yes it's a few years old now but that sensor is pucker. I've taken almost noiseless shots at ISO 3200 on a teleconverter :)

Got to agree about the noise.

I think people get far to obsessed with pixel peeping these days.

If you showed somebody the pic of the robin and didn't tell them the ISO they probably would never guess!

5D, fantastic camera. Not been disapointed yet, pair it with a 24-70L...

And now for the anti-climax:
I'm probably going to pickup a 500d. /hides

After some careful thought i came to the conclusion, that even though a 5d classic would give me that full frame look, it still wasn't the camera i really wanted. My ultimate dream camera would be the 5d Mark II. Full Frame+Video capabilities.

I'm sure 99% doesn't care about video capabilities but being able to snap great pics of our upcoming first born and quickly switching to video for it's first smile, first steps, first words, ... is priceless.(just not 5d2 priceless  )

I do have a camcorder but having everything in one package is so much more pratical. I will probably sell the camcorder.

So the plan is to get a 500d with some EF lenses and get a 5d2(or 5d3?) later.

Feel free to tell me i'm making a mistake.
