Optech wrist strap

I was wondering if the optech qd for compacts would be strong enough to carry my Nikon D3100 with standard kit lens 18 55mm, or would it be advised to go for the slr wrist strap instead. I would be using it mainly for street photography.
 
Thanks JohnyT, I've been on optech's website and it says the slr limit is up to 10lb, so I was thinking the compact would be strong enough for my Nik d3100. It doesn't specify the limit of the compact strap.
 
I have that QD strap on all my cameras. I've been out birding with a 100-400 lens on my 50D. When I saw something interesting I'd use my bins - which meant dropping the camera and letting the wrist strap catch it. No problems doing that for around 18 months (I stopped the practice when I switched the 100-400 for a 300 f2.8)!
 
I would go for the SLR one. I picked one up on Amazon for about £7. It was a great buy. I use it on my d3100 with 55-300 lens. I let my camera drop out of my hand knowing the strap with hold.

I'm looking for a suitable wrist strap for my D7000, can you post a link to the one you bought as there appears to be a number of varieties.

Thank you for that, I have hit the buy button on this one despite reviews saying it's awkward to put together, it's cheap enough to warrant an experiment.

I have one of these and am very pleased with it although I haven't used it much yet. They are difficult to put together. I thought it was just me, I can't bear those graphic how-to-put-it-together instructions. An essential part of the strap is hidden inside the leather part and can take a bit of finding and extracting, and you need to work out which way is up. After that, and a bit of further adjustment you are ready to go.

Ha, arrived today and not a single picture to follow on how to put it together!! Too late in the evening so can't concentrate.....I'll be back with questions.
