Just found one of these on Ebay for a very cheap price, thinking about it for my EOS 1100d as a general all rounder. Not expecting amazing results but is it any good? All I get when searching is the newer usm version.

How cheap is cheap ?
 
Cheap is around £40. I dont have enough for the usm version or anything similar for a few months and I'm well known for impatience (plus I can always sell on).

I've seen this at £120-130 second hand recently...seems like its value has taken a nose dive!

As for the 35-135mm, it's actually pretty decent. I picked one up for £8.00 with a scratch on the front element and it's quite impressive. Not really that much of an all rounder on the 1100D though as there's no wide angle view.

If it's a metal mount model with a distance window the optics will be pretty good, but AF will be slow and noisy, although it should still be pretty accurate.
 
Well I decided to go for it, so I'll let you know what it's like. It looks like it has the distance window. I'm not expecting anything amazin but as long as its half decent it will fit the range I want for a walk around lens (allowing for the crop factor).

I used one a while back on my 20D.
Quite a nice range to play with actually - and I found the build quality good too. If only the 28-135mm was better put together...
 
Turned up today, actually is ultrasonic. Has metal mount and distance window. Came with hood. Initial impression from a couple of very quick indoor shots is very good - very impressed with the image quality. I recently sold a Tamron 70-300 and this is way better.

I'm shooting an event this weekend for a friend, mainly using a borrowed EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM but I make take this along as well and get a couple of shots just for comparison.
