OSX 10.6.6 update

There have been concerns raised about the Mac App store. Not least of all is the fact that Apple take 30% of the revenue. Also no trials or free upgrades, these have to be via the developers web site.
It's unlikely that companies such as Adobe will be on it. However for small and emerging developers then the 30% that Apple take could be well worth while.
Aperture is on a special offer at the moment but ask for Final Cut Pro and you get nothing, not even a mention.
What is interesting is that you can download individual components from iWork rather than the whole suite, and at good prices too.
Lets see how it progresses over the next few months. Personally without the ability to trial the software then I'm not sure how much I would use it. No point in paying £20 for a piece of software only to find it's not what you really wanted.

Personally i haven't downloaded anything from there, but will probably use it whenever i next reinstall OS X - seems a much easier way of getting all those little utilities (like unzipping tools, etc), rather than traipsing around the internet hoping the site you've found is legit! Probably won't buy much, but then i have all the software i need on my Mac. For playing around with, i use my iPad.

Just got a cpl of the free things such as the twitter app and the mind node free edition.
I really do think again this will be the future. One click to install an app is a godsend for the non tech savvy.
I think over time it will develop into something amazing. There will be the doubters but I am sure this is the way forward.

So far I have only used it for 2 apps I already had so that I can get automatic updates. I am keeping an eye on it but nothing really jumps out at me bar maybe upgrading my now 2 versions old iPhoto.
I am hoping this takes off, it will never replace boxed big name software but for smaller apps it can only help in their exposure.

I'm happy to be able to buy just the components of iLife that I want (iPhoto and Garageband) for a lot less than the boxed version.
Don't forget that the Mac OS 10.7 will feature much tighter integration with the App Store, this is just Apple getting it out there and running ready for the OS launch later this year.
As for the 30% cut, for smaller/niche market developers I would think this is quite acceptable given the potential wider audience for their product. Larger companies will offset this against the packaging/transport/retailer mark up. Admittedly a company who predominately sell their own products through their own existing web based sales portals might feel that it's not worth it, but even in this case it's all about exposure and additional sales.
