Other brand Nikon D4 Battery?

Cant help, but do question the logic of spending £4k+ on a great camera and then trying to save £70 on a battery that may not last too long on a charge, may not last too long likewise or may even cause damage!!
 
I have always used compatibles in my cameras. I've used Phottix branded EN-EL3e and EN-EL4 batteries from eBay and never had any problem. You can buy more of them for the lower price than originals, rotate them and they will last longer due to less power cycles.

I find it ridiculous than Nikon completely changed latest gens of cameras so everybody who is using both old and new gen bodies has to have two sets of batteries, chargers and adapters.

I know there was that stupid Japanese regulation about max capacity vs volume, but if they were clever they could design a better solution - like just different battery doors and allow us to use both old and new batteries in the new bodies or at least keep chargers and power adapters.

What do you mean by rotate?
Sorry it is late and brain is slow at the moment... are you saying there are compatible d4 batteries or not?

I know exactly what you guys mean but I already have two official Nikon D4 batteries, I've used compatible ones in the past with D700 and they're fine. The thing is I'm going on an expedition where power is essential and I'll need maybe 3 more. At £100 a pop...

I'm inclined to agree. All of the Hahnel batteries I've tried have turned out to be pretty good. Stick to a reputable brand and you'll probably be fine. I noticed in PC World recently that Duracell is now selling camera batteries. I've no idea if either Hahnel or Duracell make batteries to fit the D4. It's the fakes that you need to watch out for.

On the other hand though, whether you buy a Nikon original or a quality third party battery, you could be unlucky and buy a faulty one. If there's a risk of that faulty battery causing damage to the camera then personally I'd rather be using a Nikon battery in my Nikon camera. That way at least there's no argument about who's product caused the problem.
 
Duracell has been making camera batteries for donkeys years not sure if they have anything compatible with the d4 though.

They don't ... yet - however there are some good alternatives to 'Nikon' generally, I've used them in D3 and D3S cameras without issues and they have been every bit as good as 'Nikon' in terms of charge and life.
As has been pointed out many times, Nikon don't make batteries so they have had to source them from someone else!
