Help!

How on earth do I get Outlook to ask for a password when opening my datafile? I've added the password but it just doesn't seem to care and happily opens the file anyway.

Harsh language doesn't seem to work either, any other suggestions?

When you added the password was the box ticked to "Save the password in your password list"? I know it's stating the obvious but it sounds the the most likely reason.

Tried it with and without, nothing. Also tried setting it through control panel > mail but it's just laughing in my face :(

ooh interesting one..

is it SP2'd first off?

Yes

Tried that but it doesn't ask me for a password - what seems to be missing is the option for turning password request on and off. It remembers the password because if I try to change it again it wants the old one first but that's the only time it shows the slightest interest in security.

You could use another client which doesn't have to remember your password and if you combine it with IMAP, then you have to make sure your mail server is well protected and that you don't have any malware on your computer (particularly keyloggers).

What features of Outlook do you use?

Most of them really, also use it to sync with calendar's on google plus from VB for automating some stuff for online orders that arrive by email.

This is all on my laptop which I use as an "office" machine but I've got something coming up that means other people could be using the machine so I'd like to secure my email, seems MS don't consider that an important feature though :(

Looks like I'll have to set up a new user account, grrr MS pos :bang:

Ahhh... of course, how could I forget - I changed a setting, I need to restart Windows...

All working now
