Overheating Sensor?

Yes
I’ve recently invested in a cheap 10 stop filter (which is more like 11 stops) and just want to clear something up before I use it in anger.

I’ve read a number of things in posts about potentially overheating your sensor during long exposures. Admittedly this was mainly in tutorials for star trails etc. but surely the same will apply. Is this just scare mongering or can you really cook / damage the sensor?

At 11 stops with a normal exposure time of 0.5 sec I’d be looking at 16 min. Should I be careful?

The only thing you may get it funny colour casts and hot pixels. Maybe not a good idea for your battery at 16 minutes.
