I've always struggled with birds (the feathered type!) so far. But I like this one.

Wow, great shot, really life-like.
I actually looked over my right shoulder wondering what it was staring at!

I'm afraid this one was at a display at Alnwick Castle. Thats why I shot wide open. To try and give it that 'free' feeling. I hope achieved that.
It was pure luck that it decided to clear off and do its own thing and then suddenly head straight for me. It then decided to land next to me on a post. Too close for me to shoot with the 70-200mm.
Glad some of you like it.
A couple more from the same place. He was fast! :

Barn owls are a pig to get at the best of times you were
obviously struggling with strong / contrasting light

Both the Harris hawk shots are pretty damned good though (y)

Thanks Chris. :)

I've taken on board what Cobra said about light/contrast. Does this version look any better?

I am using my new laptop with a glossy screen and am finding getting used to the colours a bit odd compared to my old matt finish screen.
I would appreciate some comments.

I wasn't really knocking the Owl shot Kev
I just prefer hawks to Owls
Having said that the 2nd attempt is a tad better
but I don't think you will get a "lot more" from it,
all that white in strong sunlight
You did well IMO (y)

Thanks Chris. I truly don't mind if you had been. :) I've taken maybe half a dozen bird shots in my lifetime. So am just trying to get to grips with it and am willing to learn from those of you with more experience.
I'm really not too sure about this glossy screen either. I just want viewers to see what I see. The second edit was a bit 'richer/contrasty' in colour?
I think maybe I'm being over critical of my own work as usual....
Thanks again for your input. ;)

Thats OK I can't take pictures of planes :D
The second edit the gold / browns and greys are slightly more defined

I think that we all get over critical of our own stuff at times :)
