Yes
For the past couple of years @ChrisH, @Thunderbird010 and a couple of others have been trying to get inside this massive disused building. It's seriously shut and no obvious way in, even for determined urbex boys.
We even booked on a couple of "Photographic Tours" that were cancelled and short notice with no explanation or refunds. Chris had to be restrained from shoving the fireman's pole up the guys arris!

Anyway, money talks, and Michael Portillo has been round with a film crew; the programme will be on Channel 5 next Friday night at 9PM.
Have a look what it's like before it gets converted into yet another themed hotel.

Do you mean the London Road fire station? It was open last Christmas for some sort of arty event and there was even talk of using the inner courtyard as part of the Christmas Markets. I went past on the 192 last year and the big double gates were open, it seemed to be used as storage.

I photographed a wedding at the Double Tree over the road in September and couldn't resist using it for some shots.

Yup. That's the one.
Think it is being used as storage, and it's main use recently as been for film/TV work. Apparently there is a Coroner's Office, Police Station and Law Courts all in the same building. Plus lots of accomodation for personnel living on site.
We've seen the doors open, but with otherwise unemployable ex-squaddies in Hi viz jackets telling us to go away.

There seems to have been some conflab over it's future use. Britannia Hotels wanted to buy it but they seem to specialise in the very bottom of the market, but IIRC the council blocked that, and now some up market company has come along with plans for top ranked hotel. As it's almost opposite Piccadilly station there would seem to be a market to supply.

I did 10 weeks fire training there. About 60 years ago. Still a working station then. Quite plane but impressive inside.

I've found that if the property is up for sale, then find the estate agent who would be more than happy to show you around ;)
