The TP52 - 2026 Oy's Bonkers Beffudlements 2026. Week 37 : Urban Wildlife

Week 36 : One street many stories

Postbox No. M4 127 sited on Corporation Street, Manchester carries a memorial plaque referencing the 1996 Manchester bombing. The IRA detonated a 3000lb bomb targetting the Arndale Centre. The brass plaque carries the inscription "This postbox remained standing almost undamaged on June 15, 1996 when this area was devastated by a bomb. The box was removed during the rebuilding of the city centre and was returned to its original site on November 22nd 1999"

A nice set of images. I like the second shot, the two people reading the plaque, show that it's more than just a letter box.

Ta Dominic :)

Lovely colours in all of them, and I love the sense of depth in your chosen shot.

Another side story about that, there was a little rock band that got lost for hours around Manchester city centre following all the diversions while trying to get to a gig a couple of weeks after the bombing.

As I remember, miraculously no-one was killed.

Good set of images.

I'm with Dominic in that I think #2 has the added visual interest - but I would say that because they're covering the plaque you lose the unusualness it creates.

So I think yoiur chosen shot works really well.

Cheers Kell. Just shows how some subjects work best with a set of shots :)

Great colours, especially like the BG in the first shot. Lovely idea to put the box back and have a plaque
Cheers Keith :)
