Folks,

I go to lots of gigs and take quite a few pics with my pocketable F31FD. I have had it for quite a few years and it does ok, but I was wondering if there was anything out there that had bettered the low light performance in a pocket form factor in the last year?

It would be be nice to get a little longer zoom if possible as well (5x maybe?)

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

one of the panasonics - TZ7??

I hear people talk well of the Canon S90 with it's f/2 lens on the widest zoom. Has a 28-105 equivalent optical zoom with stabilization I think.

I've got a Lumiz TZ-6 (same as the TZ-7 mentioned above but sans HD Video) and it's pretty good for concerts. As with pretty much all PAS cameras, it's a bit noisey at anything higher than 200ISO, but for shooting from half way back at a venue, I'd sooner have a fast shutter and a bit of noise. I can always run the shots through noiseware when I get home - can't rescue blurred images

Got quite a zoom on it too... 12x (25mm-300mm equivalent iirc) - enough to get this from half way back in the Sheffield Arena...

The s90 is better in low light than the Lumix TZ's but the zoom is shorter.

Thanks folks.

A friend suggested one of the new Fuji's

Either the 200 or the 70/72/80 with the new EXR mode, anybody tried one ?

S90 looks really tiny and the F2 would be cool, but the zoom is a little short maybe..

Anything else?

There's a new TZ10 that came out recently... better noise reduction and a proper manual mode over the TZ6/7's - still got the big zoom though...

In fairness, if was buying one now, I'd probably go for the s90 - mainly for the RAW mode, but then shooting at concerts is only a small part of what I want a PAS for...

I mostly use my SLR, but as I am normally in the crowd @gigs and as I do a lot of concerts (way too many) I want some decent pics hence looking for something reasonable...

I am sure with something small like the S90 it would go everywhere with me just in case :-)

S90 does look like the leader of the pack so far...

I so wonder what the F70/72/80EXR Fuji's are like though...

Any other thoughts / suggestions ? (A press pass would work, then I could use an SLR (yeah right, I wished..))

Cheers

Bump...

Anybody tried the Fuji's?

Anything else to look at ?

Thank in advance

I have done a good bit of research on the fuji range, as I was looking for a compact with little noise, I looked at everything from the f10 to the fx150 and the one's that came out on top were the f20, f30 and f31fd, they were better than the lx3 canon s90 and g10, although the s90 looks like a cracking wee camera. I recently sold my lx3 as I was not impressed with the noise and it was far from compact.

Interestingly,I took my s90 to a gig recently and was not impressed with the quality at all - no keepers, so I can't show you what I mean, sorry.

Shame.... The F31fd is 2006 technology...I would have thought someone would have got something better by now..

>5 x zoom, faster lens, better noise control, pocketable.....

I am not asking for the world here.....

Well the no keepers says it all...

I took this on my F31FD, no PP at all shot at iso 1600, anything get close? with a faster and longer lens?
