No
A work colleague has asked me what to recommend he buys his daughter for her birthday, he has a £100 budget. Now I get a bit embarrassed when asked things like these because I have absolutely no idea about the P&S market and don't want to come across as a snob by saying so. I said I'd look into it for him so would appreciate any recommendations from the TP faithful.

Cheers

I'd be in the same postion as you.

Looking at a listing at Jessops there are quite a few under £100. If we ignore Vivitar (for no reason that I can back up!) and Nikon because my sister had one and thought that it was pretty bad we get to the Canon Powershop A495 at £79. I don't think they'll come back and hit you over the head if you suggest that they take a look at that, plus it comes in silver, blue and red.

My daughter has a Canon powershot A460. It's nearly 2 years old now and has served her well. This year we noticed the lens making a hell of a noise when it opened and th eLCD has stopped working. Still takes pictures though. I suspect it's an earlier model of the A495.

Currently looking at SONY DSCw320 to replace it. Ranges in price from £109 upwards on Amazon, depending upon the colour.

Cheers, have put him in the direction of the Sony, looks a cracking little camera and I have a mate who works for them so can get it for under £100.
