Hello folks,

I am looking for a compact P&S type of camera that i can carry around with me everywhere. I am a bit loast as choice seems to be massive.

Image quality and a good degree of control are the pre requisites. I have a 5D2 and all Canon stuff but item doesn't have to be Canon.

Any thoughts:shrug::shrug:

If your pockets are both large and deep enough, I'd strongly recommend taking a look at the Lumix LX5. It's not particularly small, or cheap. The image quality knocks spots off of smaller compacts. The Canon Sureshot S95 is worth looking at too.
 
The Olympus XZ-1 is also a great contender. f1.8-2.5 Zuiko lens!!! Yum!
 
Budget - I sort of expected to pay ~£400ish for control functions and good IQ. Portability is key I need to be able to shove it in my pocket (or a small bag).

Ricoh GRD3 might be worth looking at if zoom isn't necessary. All the control you could want, customisable buttons, and snap focus mode for quick shots.
It's small and discreet with excellent handling and front and rear control dials.
 
I use a G10 professionally and have no fear of going to do some jobs armed with it alone. The new G12 is supposed to be a lot better than the G10.have also wondered about the Nikon P7000 - like you, I am after RAW capability and high image quality.

I would be interested to hear thoughts. The Lumix doesn't have the reach I require. The Canon is 140mm while the Nikon is 200mm, both with 28mm wide end.
 
The advantage the LX5 offers is its wider and faster than normal for a compact lens.

If happy with a prime maybe one of the small Panny GF MFT cameras might be worth a look?
