Hi

I am wondering if anyone could give me some hints and tips on page linking. I have read the Google SEO documents and while they explain the concept of SEO I'm not sure I understand how to implement it.

My understanding on linking is that Google will look to see how many links a site has to it, and how relative the linking site is to the linked site and this forms part of how you return on Google...??

So, if that is how it works then how do you go about getting sites to link to yours short of sending them an email and asking nicely?

I realise this is an organic thing which will take time, so I'm not expecting overnight miracles but I want to know I am doing the right things to make it happen.

As I've said I've read a lot of documents around SEO and have done the checklists (add URL to Google, add keywords, create and upload sitemap and tell Google about it etc) so it's just this aspect of linking I need help with.

Any help greatly appreciated. My site is in my signature in case anyone wants to look too :)
 
As you said, it really is an organic thing, if people like the content on your site they will link to it (which is why Google likes links).

Having the link in your sig is a good start, but if you have quality content, regularly updated your Google ranking will rise.
 
Ok thanks for the replies. It seems I'm doing the right things then and will just have to give it time.

What I can't understand, and maybe this is just my ignorance, is why someone (another photography site specifically) would link to my site without me asking. I wouldn't particularly want my site to contain a shed load of links to lots of other sites, and am not sure where they would even fit in. I suppose maybe a 'if you like my pics then maybe you'll like these sites too...' but is that how it is supposed to work?

Don't get me wrong, I would love to find someone has linked to my site, but just don't understand why they would other than maybe in the example above?

As I said, this may be my ignorance showing here...
