Hi gang

Pulled my camera out of my bag yesterday to discover the external flash gun still switched on, cursing the loss of another set of batteries I switched the gun off and on again to hear a very fake wine or charging, so I decided to change said batteries, for some silly reason I opened the batter port without switching the gun off and wallop the thing discharged through my hand and external bar mount, even with semi flat batteries it was a hell of a jolt I can tell you....Now the gun even with new batteries appears dead as a dodo I take it I've burnt said gun out for good?

You live and learn eh and sometimes painfully..lol

Unlucky mate:(
Reminds me of when I was a kid and into taking things apart to "see how they work". My subject was an old flash, inside was a small black cylinder (capacitor) which threw me on my backside, amazed by what happened I picked it up again and got a second jolt:lol: Never got into electrictronics after that:gag:

I did a similar thing years ago after getting buried up to my neck at the beach, only after I got out I realised I had my cybershot in my pocket. Sand in the zoom :/ Tried to take it apart and clean it up until I found the capacitor. Packs a punch!

And then recently at Christmas I gave my sister my D700 while I set my SB900 to remote while holding it between my legs, she fired off a shot and well, you can guess the rest.

My old metz 45 (on film camera) put out such a high trigger voltage if you touched the hot shoe while the flash was plugged into the camera pc socket you'd get a pretty good zap off it, it was deadly in the wet lol.

Which flash do you have? Wouldn't have thought that it would have zapped you just by taking the batteries out whilst it was on (otherwise there would be a massive warning in the instructions?)

A cheap £26 no make from China via eBay, now to shop for a TTL unit me thinks..lol

lol thats why I got into electronics

lol, have I ever told you...you are sick! :D

I got electrocuted when I was about 9, full on 240V stuff. Threw me across the room which thankfully broke the contact with the bare piece of wire my father had so thoughtfully left for me to find......:cuckoo:

I don’t understand why you got a shock from the batteries There is no way the high voltage charge of the capacitor is on the same part of the circuit as the batteries and will be isolated from this low voltage part..

Well try getting it from 10,000v you know it One thing its not voltage that kills you its current

Through the hot shoe if a diode fails, I have had this plenty of times , bulb flash guns were the worst more zap than a taser.

I would have thought that even the hot shoe would not be on the same part as the high charge most circuits will be chip controlled.
