Palmyra

There are things done in the name of religion that are incomprehensible to many of us. Just a few (and by no means the most horrific):-
Religious circumcision
Ritual slaughter of animals
Not eating pork
RC's eating fish on Fridays.

It would seem reasonable to expect such practices to dwindle and die out as civilisation advances. However, there are certain groups who, despite readily embracing many of the benefits that have come hand in hand with developing civilisation, simply want to live entirely, or in part, centuries behind the times.

There are many things that IS do which are unconscionable, however the destruction of Palmyra is very understandable, even if extremely disappointing. They viewed it as a centre of pagan religion, and therefore decided to destroy it (after handily looting and selling some of the relics - not that much fussed about pagan religion really). While I abhor the destruction of an ancient site, this, at least, is very easy to understand.

it is the way
i view the destruction of our country by consumerism and the motor car but constantly told it is progress
apparentntly obesity is progress as well.
