This a male. The female is brown. This coloration suggests that they perceive color as we know it or perhaps in the ultraviolet range. I only see these ambling about when they are looking for a mate. To be out in daylight is dangerous for them because they can be attacked by the Pepsis or Hemipepsis wasp which parasitizes them.

EEEK. :eek: Brrrrrrr. no way could I go within 50 yds of that beast! :runaway: It makes me shiver just looking at pics of spiders, even tiny ones.

Fantastic colour though.
 
Thanks. I placed my hand there for a size reference. They won't bother you unless you try to handle them. I am very cautious with small spiders though as I was bitten by a Brown Recluse years ago in the US. Very nasty!
