Panasonic DMC-L1 liveview/viewfinder differences

Can anyone help me understand why this camera takes such different photographs between Live View and the Viewfinder?

I understand that the camera has to flip the mirror up out of the way to be able to utilise the live view but the differences between the photographs are quite extreme, I've included 2 shots of my van, taken one after the other without moving to try and show what I mean.

It was only a phenomenon that I noticed yesterday evening as I very rarely use Live view and had just been playing around trying to take photos of a BenBo tripod I was putting on Ebay and realised that the photos were totally different.

in live view on my camera you have the option to enlarge the image to check focusing, not this is it .

Thanks for your reply towershot, it set me on the right path to work out what was happening.

Basically I sat and went through the menus and there is a button called D view, and you can magnify, the Live view screen by either 2x or 4x, once I turned that off the view was the same as the view finder.
