on the mode dial if i set on anything other than 'cust' a message comes up saying " lens not found-or c (tools) shoot without lens is set to off".
You need to set shoot without lens to 'on'.

Not sure where to host the edit as I have never edited someone's image on TP before, hope you can see this as I have it set to private on my Flickr.
Apologies if this is wrong.

How much should one expect to pay for a 2nd hand G3 with or without the kit lens?
There is a G3 body in the classifieds for £250 (or was earlier today).
i have already set to 'shoot without lens' to 'on' in the custom settings so i can use the nikon lenses when set on the 'cust' setting on the mode wheel,as stated i dont seem to be able to set shutter speeds on 'cust'
so tell me how to set the without lens to 'on' ...on the other mode settings so i can use those settings?:bonk:
Tesco are selling the G2 kit for £199. Is that a good buy / Good camera to buy? It seems nice and small, compact and at least it has an viewfinder.
I do like the G3 but that is way out of my price range.
I could then buy a 14m for the G2. Would that be a good combo as i like to take pics indoors of my family.
I bought one over Easter weekend and its a great camera, to my SLR obsessed head its far easier to use than the GF2 and the folding screen is ace, seems slightly more crisp than the GF2 screen too. I'm amazed Tesco still have any left at that price, someone speculated that they've maybe bought all remaining stock from the UK distributor, the continued availability suggests that might be spot on...samems said:Tesco are selling the G2 kit for £199. Not sure, I've had a play and can only get it to do exposure increments. Why do you use custom rather than manual?
so far the only setting i can use is the custom setting 1-2-3 with the 'without lens' set to 'on' .i want to be able to use other settings/modes including manual but the message keeps coming up as stated previously.i know i must be missing something and the manual is not making it clear how to set the camera to use my non panasonic lenses on all modes
I got my new G2 out for a play yesterday and immediately noticed that when I put my 20mm f/1.7 on to it it won't do continuous auto focus (AFC). If I put it into that mode the camera will say not supported and to put into AFS mode instead. I then googled and was shocked to find that the 20mm is "so slow to auto focus that it won't do continuous AF on anything". Wow. £280 for this lens starts to now look even more concerning. I feel like I wasted my money on this lens to be honest.
I can't believe I have never seen anyone mention this. This lens only ever gets praise. Are there any other lenses that will not do AFC that I should be aware about? Is it really that slow so as not to be able to do this function? When I focus with it, it seems ok.
One of the main reasons I jumped onto m43rds was the 20mm prime but I'm sort of a bit miffed I never spotted this before. The extra speed benefit of the lens you can't even use for any moving focus shots as it doesn't support it. I've never heard of a lens not doing this.
I would assume the 25mm does do AFC, but for £500 I'd expect that.
srhmoto said:To be honest, M43 cameras with there contrast AF systems are rubbish at CAF anyway as far as stills are concrrned. This is a function of the contrast detect auto focus system rather than the lenses. As such, I'd nevrt consider using it unless I was shooting video.
ronnus said:Pretty much my take on it too, and one of the reasons I'll not be dumping my DSLR's yet
That said, this does seem to be limited to the 20mm, and it is most definitely a slow focusser. I'll have a mess about later and see what's what...

Nothing in the galleries in the link above were shot using it.
14mm far better for that task.ronnus said:Some crackers thereBe curious to know what camera/lens combo were these taken with? If m43 then I'm seriously impressed!
Must get out and shoot some motorsport, those pics will hopefully give me the butt kick I need!
Oh, and the 20mm sucks for video too, its almost as noisy as my Nikon D lenses14mm far better for that task.
I finally did it and sold all my canon DSLR gear, m43's all the way for me now, suits my photography subject matter. Going to feel strange having no FF DSLR or L lenses, but was not using them much at all.

Hmm, I was looking at/reading reviews of gh2's the other day, but a tad out of my price range (for a second system!).srhmoto said:Panasonic GH2 + 14-140mm (for the majority of shots) and 100-300mm lenses![]()
