Panasonic G1

I loved mine and actually got on well with the EVF. It's not a great deal smaller than some dslr's but I found it pretty compact and very easy to carry around all day

The kit lens is a cracker

Really like the image quality and noise is very well controlled, all the over-rides and manual settings that a true dslr would have and superb screen

I'd still have it had I not sold it to get the GF-1

Dave

How would this compare to say a D5000?

Ive got a G1, I did tons of research before buying a camera and I bought the G1. Small, light easy to learn, and good results.
Very pleased.

I've not tried the d5000 but having checked it out in the store I have to say I prefer the G1 as a carry around camera. I don't think there's much in it iq wise and have no need for the Nikon's rudimentary video facility

I'm not anti-nikon (if I were to go back to having a dslr I would get a Nikon) but these days I find I take more pictures if I carry less around with me and the micro 4/3 system is lighter to carry

I also think Panasonics generally have excellent, well thought out ergonomics

Thank you for all your comments, i absolutely love mine but when i tell people what camera i have they tell me its not a 'real' camera, but i love it, like people said about its light and easy to learn with!! i think the kit lens is good but really really wanting the 45-200, well have to see what father christmas brings i guess, lol
Dave whats the GF-1 like? did you get the next lens up for your G1?

oh im so jealous!! lol def worth the money then? did you get it from highstreet or get a deal? have you looked at panasonic top flashes for it too as im not sure which to get?

I love the GF-1 even more than the G1 but that's not saying it's any better - I just prefer that type of camera as I'm done with dslr's

The 45-200 lens is good for what it is but not such a great lens as the 14-45. That said the price has dropped quite a but and it's pretty reasonable now. Lens is very small and light for its range and gas decent IS

I've kept my 45-200 and Olympus fl36 flash from my G1 as these are both fine with the gf-1 and I have the pancake lens on its way as we speak

I was lucky as my local store (Skears in Northampton - a fantastic proper camera store!) had one in and I fell in lust with it instantly. They did me a very fair px on my g1

BTW whoever told you that the G1 isn't a proper camera is talking out of the wrong orifice!!!

oh ive just been looking on the internet for the 45-200 and it has come down in price, loads!! i didnt realise it was coming down so quick, hopefully after christmas get a bit of a deal!! also just had a look at the pancake lens which looks very cool too, its compatible with the g1 isnt it? thats obviously the next one on my wish list, along with flashes, lighting and backdrops lol
Ive been told that its not a proper camera by diehard DSLR photographers who say a camera without the prism isnt a real DSLR!! lol never mind i love it, no matter whether it is or it isnt!! lol
