Panasonic G3

Anyone has one or has played with one and can comment on the quality of the EVF.

It seems it ticks quite a few boxes that the GF1/2 do not (built in VF, much better DR and high ISO performance), while keeping the bulk quite low compared to the GH or older G models.

I need a smaller camera than my DSLR and looks like the G3 + a 20mm will be quite the combo.

I do need to know though if the EVF is any good and since nobody around me has it in stock for me to play with I come to the great hive mind of TP .

I'm not sure if it's the same one as in the G1/G2/GH1/GH2 or not, but the GH1 is fantastic. Wouldn't go back to a plain DSLR viewfinder again. It's a little strange at first, feels a little like you'r in some kind of RPG computer game (shut you other eye and run round just looking through the EVF, it's a fun way to trip over your cat!). There are a coupleof things to be wary of on it - in really poor light with a slow lens you will find it looses definition. For really poor ight I mean really poor, 1/4second or slowerr at f1.8 poor, in such situations though the flip screen remains fantastic so that can be used instead.

If you move really fast you'll notice a little smearingof the colours, since the full RGB spectrum isn't displayed at once, it cycles each channel at a time so it's not like true video.

The only thing that would annoy me with the G3 is the lack of eye sensor, that is really helpful on the GH1.

Right so what I have to do then is go find me a place with GH1/2s in stock and have a good go at the viewfinder. The G3 has to be similar if not better hopefully! Thanks a lot!

It's not any better, it may be smaller depends who's review you read. I suspect it's the same as tbh. It has the same refresh rate as the GH1/2 though for sure.
