Panasonic GF1 SD card problem, help please *Sorted*

I've just bought a GF1 from the classifieds on the forum, it's for my 7 year old, my problem is no matter what SD card i put into the camera when i connect it to my pc i keep getting an error that the card is write protected.

I can take photo's and video's with it just fine, and the camera looks mint.

I've tried a number of cards, checked they're not write protected etc, i can format the cards from in the camera, but cannot delete or do anything else once i connect it to a pc with the usb lead, i don't have a card reader to hand to check but the cards i've tried all work in my other camera's when i connect them to a pc, could there be a setting in the camera i've missed?

Any ideas please it's driving me up the wall lol
 
When you connect the camera to the PC, can you see the images on the card? You shouldn't be able to write to the card while it's in the camera though, only view the pictures or copy them off the card.

You probably won't be able to delete individual images off the card either.
 
Hmmm, maybe you're right, i could swear my previous GF1 and GX1 allowed me too though.
 
I think you can change the USB format to Mass Storage Device in camera too which may let you delete files through the camera via USB.

Although, if you connect the camera to the PC and copy off or import the images just format the card in the camera afterwards.
 
Tried that didn't work i think i'll dig out my card reader and access it through that, still pretty sure i shouldn't get 'card is write protected' message though

This has been resolved now, many thanks to @RichardtheSane, a truly top bloke :)
 
What was the problem? Might help others with similar issues if you reveal the secret! ;)
 
No idea lol i got past the problem by using a card reader.
 
Some cards are just like that. I can only access the one in my LX5 using the cable, the card won't work in the laptop or any of my card readers or my Sony A7R when I had that, yet it's 100% fine in the LX5. Something similar with one in my phone, fine in the phone and card reader but won't work in the LX5!
 
Check that the USB Mode (Setup Menu 3) is set to 'PC'. This will allow the GF1 to connect to the PC as a mass storage device and allow full read/write access. If it's not set as a mass storage device, you'll experience the problems you're describing.
 
It was set as pc mass storage device but no joy.
