Hi everyone

I am hoping for some advice for a friend. She has a Panasonic Lumix DMC-F28 with Leica lens. She is a keen mountaineer and dropped the camera after slipping on ice. The lens was badly damaged. She's had it in a camera repair shop for about 6 months. The man in there reckons she might be able to replace the lens for about £100 (but he's not sure, it could be more...). She paid about £250 for the camera and really liked features like the 12x optical zoom (great for when she's on the mountains).

The question - is it worth holding out for a possible repair OR should she give up and get a new camera? If so, any recommendations?

Thanks :)

the drop may have caused more damage than the lens, My d70s droped out of my bag and the camera was a right off , although i thought the lens had survived i was wrong.

What i am saying is that the camera may be damaged as well. I would suggest a possible replacement is the f38 . which is about £250

Cheers Steve

the new dmc-f38 is around £240 nowadays. only your friend can decide. personally get an accurate estimate on what it will cost to repair whilst ensuring the company/person is of good repute and qualified to repair the camera in question.

then its down to your friend and what she can afford.

A quick look on Ebay suggests a secondhand example is worth around the £150 mark and a "spares or repair" one between £40-80, so it might be as well flogging the damaged one and just buying either another one or a new F38...
