Looking at one of these, any one had experience of them, would probably trade my D3100. Looking at lighter weight gear.

I am concerned about depth of field with either of these, in fact any Compact System is going to be the same, will be having a good look before buying.

The Fuji interchangeable lens cameras are APS-C so depth of field will be the same as D3100. Depth of field difference between m43 and APS-C is not massive.
If you mean compact cameras like the LX7 then there is more of a difference, yes.
