Panning with IS

Is there a shutter speed where IS could hinder rather than help ?

Birds in flight or aircraft where because of the light it not difficult to get a fast shutter speed, or would you leave IS on all the time.

I think I have read smewhere that at fast shutterspeeds the IS can sort of fight against you :shrug:

At high shutter speeds is will be useless as you're not likely to have camera shake.

Personally unless it's a 2 stage is and youre panning on the horizontal axis I'd turn it off.

Most Canon IS lenses have a mode which is specifically designed for panning. It's called Mode 2. What this does is allow movement in one direction but cancel out all movement perpendicular to that direction. So it should make your panned shots better, not worse, whatever the shutter speed.

Thank you Neil and Stewart, experimenting/practice I think is what is needed as my panning is crap any how just wondered what difference IS would make
