i have just bought a second hand model off ebay with lens 14-45
i have some sd cards but only up to 2Gb
what would the users of this recommend
size and if sdhc is worth getting

I have Kingston SD6 8gb in both my G1 and GF1. They've never missed a beat, record about 600 RAW's and cost about £10 each.

i can now buy with confidence...i have all scandisc cards at present...except the xd which fit the oly e420 which i must now sell along with the 8 gb cf card which that body takes...it takes 2 cards
but will go along with your recommendation....££ are mounting up

any ideas on battery source please....glad you are up late

Don't reach for the credit card to buy that Kingston card just yet...

I looked on Amazon and I think that things have moved on since I bought my cards. I'm sure I paid about £10 each for mine but I noticed that you can get both faster and higher capacity cards for your £10 (or so) these days. I always by big name brands from big name sites and I've never had a problem with Kingston or Sandisk.

Dunno about batteries but I'm sure they've been mentioned in the G Series Owners thread so hopefully someone will be along in a mo to point you in the right direction.

yes Alan i will do an amazon run to check out the prices on the 8Gb
i really wanted to check that i didnt buy a tooooo big card and overload the camera...ie 16Gb
for safetys sake i always split my shots over a few cards..

Yes. The camera not recognising a card because it's too big or two fast always worries me but at least I know for certain mine (G1+GF1) both work with 8 GB class 6.

Maybe someone knows the limits of what these cameras will accept?

PS. I use my G1 with the EVF, the rear screen shut to the body, and a manual lens. Despite the EVF I find it to be a very film shooting like experience

i am used to electronic viewfinders on my C 765 and FZ7
the e 420 is see through...and i do find that clearer and finer details on focussing...but its a trade off for me to get away from the mirror slr and on to a larger Mp sensor of the G1

as the days go on i can feed back here my experience which i do think will be good...provided the item is in good nick...i do always rely on the ebayers with good feedback to be quite clear on condition
the 14-45 will be a new experience as i have been using the 17.5-45 kit lens on the e-420 with sometimes wishing for a bit of wider view

I have a 14-42mm but don't use it as I mostly use primes. From what I've read I'd expect your 14-45mm to be a bit better.

You'll probably notice a few things... how small the lens is, how good the IS is and the complete absence of any CA nasties or distortion as these are corrected in camera.

yes i always carry a spare...the e-420 batteries seem to hold a lot of charge
but if its a problem ...i dont always take a lot each day...i will charge each days battery up at night

i would do likewise and just use the screen for replay
btw...does the evf give you a chimp time which you can set yourself...all this jargon...
what i mean is when you have taken the shot does it show in the evf and can you set the time it remains there...so one doesnt need to use the back for review

The cards all have a class number on them and it relates to the speed of transfer, as in MB per sec, so a class 6 does 6mb per sec...

To be honest the first thing I always do with cameras is go through the menu and turn pretty much everything OFF The only exception being Auto ISO which I leave on. I use the camera in Aperture mode mostly and with auto review turned off. I don't normally review shots as I take them and when I do want to review a shot I'm happy to press the button

my way as well...although i always try to use the lowest iso and learn to cope with the speed side
generally being an old manual 35 slr user there isnt much i need except
autofocus..bad eyes
exposure lock, and compensation...the wheel does it i guess
and perhaps the anti shock or whatever its called...
simpler the better
however if the lens i get has sensitive focus ring i may go back to manual focus...its a great boon and you dont need to use focus lock with the shutter...reserving that for something else
