Would a canon 70-300 is usm, lens be of help, to someone who has just found out, that he has the early stages of Parkinsons.

Would the I.S. help in regaurd to the trembling of this hands, when takeing photos.

Perhaps. It would depend on the severity of the trembling as IS can only do so much. What sort of photography does he shoot? A flash could also help to freeze movement. A tripod and remote release of some sort would help to decouple him from the camera.

I occasionally have a severe tremor caused by my thyroid not doing what it should. It's so bad I can't pick up a cup of coffee without spilling it.

When this happens I do one of two things with my photography:

1. Use a tripod and remote
2. Use my 50mm f/1.4 wide open on Aperture Priority and take shots with a very shallow DoF. I can usually get the shutter speed to a point where I can avoid camera shake.

I have had a look through mine and given my hands a very slight tremble and in my opinion IS would be of little use as it will really just overcome camera shake not the early stages of Parkinsons disease.

But, I would love to be wrong in this instance.

He loves takeing shots of birds, but most of his photos are taken,at his place of work. So a tripod is a non starter.

That is what he is doing at the moment, his shutter speed is up around 1/1250 sec.

I hope you are.

Thanks for all your replys. I think I will get him a 70-300mm is lens. And hope that the I.S + a highist shutter speed will help.
