Can anyone give me an idea of the sizes required to make my own passport photos (of my son).

What is the size of the image (with and without border).

Gonna mess around with some shots - will post them soon.

Cheers

Righty ....

The image below is sized at 45mmx35mm @ 300dpi.

Do you thin k that this would be accepted .. or is there too much shadow on his face ?

Seconds after this was taken, he burst into tears as he wanted his milk!

Your thoughts please .....

cheers

And PS - I know, he needs a haircut but the wife won't let me anywhere near him with the clippers ;)

PPS - this was actually taken by the wife, as I had to hold him out at arms length to avoid getting me in the picture ... her arms weren't strong enough ;)

TBH I dont think that would be accepted mate. Too much shadow on his face IMO
Nothing a bit of PS can't fix though :)

Yeah, that's what I was thinking too on the shadow front.

Will either have a play in PS (what would you suggest as the best way to lighten the shadow?) or wait until the sun comes back out!

Copyed frome the GOV web site three of the requirments

be free from shadows; be taken with your eyes open and clearly visible (no sunglasses or tinted glasses and no hair across your eyes);

and
how you with a neutral expression and your mouth closed (no grinning, frowning or raised eyebrows);

last
be a close-up of your head and shoulders so that your head, from the bottom of your chin to your crown is between 29mm and 34mm high; and clear of writing on the front and back.

Okies .....

The people who make these regulations are having a laugh ...

Ever tried getting a 17month old to close his mouth ? ;)

I need to work on that shadow - definitely.

The height thing can easily be cropped to fit I think!!!

I do believe they are a little more lenient with young children, might be worth giving them a call!

Spot on ^^ they are indeed, don't worry too much about the mouth, especially with children under 6 years. The background did used to have to be white, but now it must be off white or very light grey. :cuckoo: They can, and do reject PP photos with pure white backgrounds now. ;)

They are exceptionally fussy about these things nowadays - best just take him to the local machine and get them done to the correct spec...

It is worth paying the extra to get the documentation and photos checked at a Post Office before you send them in - both my husband and I had to get our photos redone - and we had both used one of those photo-booth machines. He ended up going to a photographer who charged the same as the machine but used his software to make sure the photos were correct.
