Does anyone use the paypal "Buy Now" buttons on their website? I was having a look and it started of say "No programming skill required". Great, right up my street, I thought.

Went to create a button and at the end, it get a load of code and said to put in in with my own website code. What happened to "No programming skill required"?

So, does anyone use these and, if so, what shouldI be doing with the code?

Insert the pp code on your page where you want the button to appear.

what prog are you using for the web page?

sorry about that - laptop is acting up - and a bad connection

Not quite sure how rapidweaver works but I would imagine the following should get you there or thereabouts :-

Save everything first :D

1) In the designer, place the cursor in the position you want the button to appear
2) Look along the top of the screen for an option to change to HTML view. It should, logically, be a tab at the top, or it might be on the View menu.
3) Now, it should (again, logically) place you at the point in the code equivalent to where you left your cursor
4) If it appears to have done this (i.e, the cursor is now sat somewhere in the middle of a bunch of code), don't move the cursor or click anywhere else, simply paste the code that was generated for you earlier
5) Switch back to design view and see what it looks like

It may not show as intended until you actually publish it, so try that before giving up and trying something else.

If all else fails and you haven't found the solution by tomorrow, PM me and I'll be able to help you while I'm at work.

I've had a go at this but the cursor appears at the end of all the code and even if I paste the code there, it doesn't have any effect. If I then go back to the code, it won't let me enter any text anywhere.

I'm not even sure if I'm accessing the code in the right way, I just clicked on view>view source.

I've never used Rapidweaver, but when I used to use frontpage a long time ago they used to have a "Insert HTML" button.

A bit like the insert image button.

You would place the cursor where you wanted the button, click the insert HTML button and a text box would pop up. Paste the code in there and apply. Job done.

As I said, i've never used Rapid weaver, but I would take a bet there would be a button somewhere that did the same.

marc is there a live copy of website online at the moment? we could have a look and advise.. or you could email one of us the HTML file?

Hi Neil

It's actually the one in my sig although there isn't a page set up yet for it. Basically, I've been asked by a friend to shoot a small dressage event tomorrow and I'm just looking for a way for people to buy the images online.

Hi Elliott

Haven't seen such a button but will certainly have a look for one (at work now so can't look until this evening.)

what i did before photocart was this..

make sure all images in the gallery have clear unique references next to them. i then used a separate html "frame" and popped in there the paypal functions...

what i did was create a "add to cart" button but create it with a "Add dropdown menu with price/option" and "Add text field".

basically like this:

http://www.fallenlightphotography.com/Test/oldbottom.html

(dont rip that exact code or i'll get all of your payments.. :naughty: )

the customer then just types in the image reference, selects the size and hits add to cart.

its a little clunky and is prone to typos, but i found it did the job for a while..

Thanks Neil. If I can actually work out how to place code in Rapidweaver, I'll have a look at that.

The Rapidweaver support forum looks very good, it might be worth posting a question on there, although they don't seem too keen on Paypal and recommend the Rapidcart plugin, which is probably a better option.

If you are using a lab to print and send the orders then Colour World Imaging offer a gallery which costs £20 to setup.

Yep, post many a question on the Rapidweaver forum and they've been very good.

Will have a look at the colourworld option, thanks. I use Loxley but that's not fixed in stone.

You mean like the ones on Dean's page:

http://www.camerabeanbags.co.uk/howtopurchase.html

It is really easy. Just insert your cursor in your editor where you want to place your button, switch to code view, and paste.

Yep, that's the type of thing. Your suggestion is the same as the one on the RW forum but I can't seem to work out how to enter the text into the code. The only code view I can find is "view source" but that doesn't seem to allow me to edit.

That's exactly what I suggested, but apparently this Rapidweaver doesn't work like that :gag:

There should be a HTML view/tab/button somewhere that allows you to edit the actual HTML.

Yeah, I'll have to have another hunt when I get home this evening (the day job getting in te way again)

Oh, and apologies. Just realised it was you, not the RW forum, that gave that suggestion. :$

No problem.

Looks as though, since you're using templates, you can't actually edit the HTML in Rapidweaver :shake:

I'm not sure what the best option is. Apparently you can modify the template files but this seems illogical. You may have to save the site as the html page, then simply open it up in another HTML editor like Dreamweaver, or simply notepad.

Your problem will be knowing where to paste the code.

What you could do is....

- Write something like (CODEHERE) in the place where you want your button to appear.
- Publish/save the page (or whatever you do to generate the HTML file)
- Then open this up in Notepad and replace the phrase (CODEHERE) with the button code you generated earlier.

Save that and it should be good to go.

looking at their video turorials there isnt..

reading the manual what we need is this:

View Source
Whilst a knowledge of HTML is not necessary to use RapidWeaver, you can view the HTML code view the code that RapidWeaver will output. To enter Code view mode, use keyboard shortcut Command-Option-U or choose View -> View Source. The upper portion of the view shows the HTML code as rendered by RapidWeaver. Any errors and warnings are displayed in the lower portion of the screen for your inspection and review. If you want to tidy your code when viewing the source, click the ‘Tidy Source’ button at the bottom of the code window.

No-one explained this bit. The reason that you need no programming skill is that paypal give you HTML "code" and HTML is not a programming language. It is a markup language.

For all intents and purposes, to somebody who doesn't know "code", HTML is still just a form of programming code.

Yay!!! :woot:

It's true what they say about leaving something then coming back tot it. I got home from work and within 5 minutes, I worked ut how to do it. There's a button at the bottom:

Screenshot2010-07-02at184758.png

It says "apply HTML Mark up" and it gives a "code" option. Then I found I didn't even need that! :bonk: Turns out that if I just paste the code directly onto the page (don't even need to see the page in code view) it works. :D

Only thing now is, Paypal gives a list of available buttons to create, including "add to cart" but not a "view cart" or "Proceed to checkout".
