Can someone confirm for me what this is exactly?

My understanding is you can use it to send money with no charge to either party. Is that right?

no charge (unless youre funding the transaction by card) but no protection.

plus i think its against ebays t&c's.

in short, depends how much you trust your buyer etc.

It's for sale in the classifieds here - just want to make sure no-one is going to get charged.

Yes. The sender selects to send as gift, no charges then apply, but you are not supposed to use this as payment for goods, but a lot of people do for private sales.

I've never got to the bottom of whether you can get a chargeback on a gift payment.

Edit: Neil is correct, you can't gift with a credit card. Not sure if you can gift if you have linked to a debit card.

So there are charges?? I'm very confused now.

I'm just going to withdraw the funds and do a bank transferI think. Much less hassle.

the help page suggests credit and debit incurs a charge.

paypal balance incurs no charge.

I've used paypal gift without any charges in the past for small transactions.

If you keep the money within paypal - ie. anything you get in, you use paypal to spend again, rather than withdrawing to your your bank account - you shouldn't have to pay anything.

However, you don't get any protection against fraud, and if you do it too much you could get suspended for trading....having said that, I did a group buy for another forum a year ago with it and didn't have any problems. (thankless and hard work though, not recommended...)
