Pbase - what's going on?

I've sung the praises of PBase for many years as an image hosting site, but it suffered a major crash last week and its services were unavailable for several days. It started out as a power outage to them, then developed into a full database crash.

It's kinda back again, but I've just gone to use it and discovered several functions missing, such as the ability to delete images, delete originals etc, which makes it a bit useless. I've had to password protect folders.

Even the forum is missing so I can't query that!

Anyone know what's going on?
 
Serevrs went down last thursday due to a power outage, then apparently it corrupted their oracle database and they had to restore that. It kinda came back on monday evening/tuesday in read only mode.

It's still back but in a very limited form, and it's been nearly a week. Pretty poor really.

Maybe it's time I started looking at Flickr. I've been avoiding it so far.
 
Flipping terrible I'd suggest ...I recently had a major problem on a Sunday evening ... dispatched a service ticket online ...got a email reply within ten minutes... and the problem was fixed before Monday breakfast.

Then two more follow ups over the next 48 hours checking that I was still happy ... :clap:

Still is Pbase free like flicker then? Not so bad if your not paying I guess ....maybe time to host your own instead?

Why not try Zenfolio - been with them for over three years.. and so far no problems with them.
And they keep adding to the features on the site .. and does the trick for me.
I think it's about $100 for the 'ultimate' membership per year (with discounts if you get an exsisting members promo-code)..

I'd go for Zenfolio over Flickr... just my opinion though...
 
I managed to upload a couple of pics last night and edited the titles etc. Kept on getting the "pbase is working to fix this" page but it does seem to be getting there. Would I want to swap to another site? Not sure really as it is only £24 per year and I have loads of favorites and enjoy browsing the galleries.

Nope Pbase isn't free
US$23 yearly for 500 Megabytes of photo storage. (or increments of)
or
US$60 yearly for 1500 Megabytes of photo storage.

It's been really good, occasionally slow, for a purely photo hosting site, but this lengthy downtime and lack of full functionality/no news is a little wearing.
 
You should be getting better for your money by the sounds, very wearing ...price is okay though init.

I pay £60 a year for server space ...1000meg storage, six websites hosted and four databases, which is similar to your rate considering.

But If my main business site went fubar for a week I'd be pretty fuming by now for sure.

Hope you get some answers soon.
