PC tablet for the photographer

Looks interesting... but I'd expect them to simply replace the $ for £ so expect it to be £799 :(

looks good, but there's a whole load of these coming in the next 6months to a year - were going to be inundated with them, I want to get one but will def hold off until I know what the others offer.... lg, asus, notion ink adam etc etc...

HP have always led the pack for the tablet market so I would be amazed if anyone else will hold a candle to the HP. Reading between the lines I reckon that HP want to 'field test' the unit with the corporates using specialised preconfigured units (as HP made it quite clear these are only channel offerings not available as domestic units) and once they have a stable product will unleash it on the average consumer probably some time next year.

If that is the case then there would be no incentive (certainly for me) to buy it instead of the iPad, which is what this device is trying to be.

I've been using tablet pc's since 2004 and this is great news and to be honest a price I was pretty much expecting for such a product from HP. My last one (acer c302) was far too large and fragile to be used out and about, lasted a good 2-3 years but being an acer spent more time on the back of a DHL truck than it did doing site work.

I've always wanted an ipad like product but with windows functionality.

HP have been making tablets for years well before the ipad - HP have already made it quite clear they are not interested in the consumer side which is what ipad is targeted for. However, it its a pity as it would be a wonderful powerful tool for someone in photography.

they have indeed been making tablets for years, but the iPad is a different kind of tablet, one with no keyboard or other laptoppy bits. The slate is going to be an obvious competitor to the iPad.

The Compaq (part of HP now?) TC1000 series is a good 7 years old now and was a fantastic slate tablet with keyboard dock for when a keyboard was needed. Tablets are starting to work now because they are touch rather than digitizers.

I hope more windows based slates are developed soon as it is what I am after instead of getting another laptop/netbook.
