PC wont fire up - urgent help please!

After having a month off due to knee surgery i went out to the van this morning to fire up my PC in the van that runs our viewing screens to get things ready for an event tomorow only to find when i turn the PC on the green light comes on and apears to start then after a couple of seconds a red light flash's and a beeping noise sounds.

its a HP xw6400 workstation.

Was running on the vans lesuire battery system as normal - Just taken it indoors to try it on mains and still doesnt work.

Any ideas's on things to check?

It beeps 5 times, then a few stops for a few seconds and continues to beep 5 times.

bad ram. If you have more than one stick take one out and fire up. if it still does it replace the ram and take the other stick out
 
Open her up, take out the RAM and any graphics cards and re-seat them - see if that resolves the issue

If it doesn't.

Take out the graphics card and see if its resolved.

If not, graphics card back in and swap out the RAM and see if that resolves the issue

I would have if; a) I wasn't on an iPad b) you didn't already have it in hand.

You were doing exactly what I would have done. Chill out, it wasn't a dig! :D
 
Tbh I'd go for the 'something has rattled loose' option, open the PC and make sure that all the components are properly seated.

Given that it's a vehicle mounted computer having something shaken out of it's housing would be fairly likely, no matter how well secured it is.
 
Thanks for all of your help - You really are a good bunch!

My PC knowlage really isnt up to much but seems you lot have cracked it! - Removed the ram and re installed it and she fired up - Guessing something had worked its way loose - Good bit of knowlage for next time, so thankyou all very much!

...and at the risk of stating the blank blank obvious, don't leave it until the day before (on a Bank Holiday) before checking your kit next time...

...although on the plus side you did check it, and all's well! :D
 
Always good to see a happy ending :thumbs: Can I adopt these proceedures when the wife stops working :shrug:

I hear what your saying! To be honest i only even fired it up as i had some extra bits to add onto our viewing screen system - Doesnt normally need checking as everything is shut down properly and left in situe - Glad i did though!!
