I wanted to buy another Peli 1500 case, but alas, they are so expensive now, I can't afford their price. Imagine my surprise when I found one of the US Chest company boxes, new on Ebay for only £34.95.

I ordered one yesterday, and it was delivered today via UPS 24!!!! The delivery must have cost them £10, and it was free at point of sale.

The box is substantial, and appears to be just about a 1:1 copy of the Peli. Obviously there are small detail changes, but the recipe is good. Stainless pins on the hinges and clip locks, pressure equalisation valve that appears to work the same as the Peli, a full foam liner, and a 10cm 'pick and pluck' double sided foam cushion, which alone would cost the price of this case from Peli.

I am extremely happy with this purchase. It looks and feels as good as the genuine article for around 1/6th of the price of an original. I have nothing whatsoever to do with this company, just over the moon with the value, and I wanted to share.

I'm fairly sure toolsville are the internet side of Barnes tools,http://www.thetoolwarehouse.co.uk/ a long established company. (fairly local to me too) Wished I'd known about these tool boxes a couple of weeks ago. I bought a peli-storm, mainly for storage.
 
In the thread title you said it was ABS. I can't find a reference to that on the ebay product page. However ABS tends to be brittle and that might explain the price. Surely Pelis are bombproof polycarbonate?

I couldn't find any reference to the material on the ebay page either. I assumed it was ABS. The hard cases on my BMW K1100RT are made from abs, and they are a lot thinner. They've stood an awful lot of punishment over the years.

Research suggests that Peli cases are made from a Polypropylene polymer plastic.

ABS is an extremely hard polymer, resistant to impact, deformation, and heat. It is used in white water canoes, which seems to mean it must be pretty tough.

What a coincidence..... I went into Maplins this afternoon,first time ever, andfound what look to be identical cases for £45, so you could go and inspect one before purchase.

Hello Douglas,
I was wondering if the peli you bought had the padded dividers and if so do they fit in this case? Cos that would be ace!

Took it to a very sandy place with no problems
Been in a cargo hold 6 times and nothing broken

The maplin ones are at £39 now on the website. I bought two and got an additional £7 off using a voucher code found online. Had a look at them in store yesterday and I'd say they are a good size.
 
It's a bit confusing. The web page showing all six cases does mention foam but the individual pages seem to differ. The individual page for the SG32900 doesn't mention foam but the SG33189 page does. Perhaps it's just a mistake. :thinking:

Aye, the only issue I have with these is the lid is too deep. It's so difficult trying to find the perfect case!

Don't bother with CPC. I ordered one, going through the arrse ache of registering and parting with payment details only to get an email a day later telling me they were out of stock and the next delivery would be in October. Hello, that's 10 months away............I could have built one out of Lego by then!
Looks like Ill be looking in at Maplins!

The biggest one is the SG32901 (Duratool D00468) - that's the one I tried to order.

When I clicked 'buy' and went to checkout it said 'awaiting delivery', so I emailed them and asked how long delivery would be - they said: "We are currently changing manufacturer and we do not have a date when its available." If they're changing manufacturer the replacement case won't be made by Duratool, so I emailed them again and asked if it would be the same dimensions as the D00468 - this time they said: "Sorry, it is actually changes in the manufacturing process. We are unable to confirm any date at all."

Utterly useless!! I give up with them - they can't even be bothered to answer a simple question properly.
 
Found a problem with the Maplin case. Yodel... 'nuff sed!

(Actually, that implies that they managed to break it when what I meant is that it's them who will be delivering it...)
 
Only Maplin's choice of carrier for home delivery! Unfortunately I'm still waiting on the DVLA so not able to get across town as easily as I would like to pick things up, so I have to get them delivered here. Some carriers are great - DPD text with a delivery slot and are pretty much on the button. Yodel are less good - I try to avoid suppliers who use them but Maplin don't tell you until you're committed. I was supposed to be going down to the city centre today but have had to wait in just in case they deliver. If I was allowed to drive, missing the delivery wouldn't be a problem.

Will offer my opinion on the case when it arrives.
 
I had no problems with Yodel, other than the guy that delivered it looked a little dodgy and his van looked even more so.
 
Fully liveried van here and a new driver. I think they had some problems over the recent busy period and are now sorting things out. Apparently, future deliveries will usually be in the afternoon, before 4pm since he's on his way back to the depot and we're almost at the end of his route. Knowing when they're likely to be here is a big help, hence my liking of DPD who are usually here about 5 minutes after the earliest they say they'll be in the text/e-mail. To be fair, Yodel do send an e-mail but "sometime in the next 2 days" is less helpful than "Between 13:45 and 14:45 today"!

Now, onto a brief case review... Looks and feels good, very Peli like, although I don't have a genuine Peli here to compare it to. Seems well padded inside, decent density foam throughout. Did a brief and not too vigorous strength test by standing on the middle of the lid. Obviously it flexes - I am about 100kg at the moment! but only by about 5mm. I was standing on one foot, fairly flat footed but that's still a decent loading. Not very light in weight but since it's more for storage than transport, that's not too important to me. Looks like the feet will register into moulded squares on the lid so it'll stack with others. Certainly a decent alternative to a Peli.
