It looks like a great little camera. I'm slightly disappointed at the lack of weather sealing, since it was so much a part of the value for money thing on Pentax bodies. But I'll live with that. A more annoying niggle is the lack of an add-on evf - with this taking the full range of k-mount lenses past and present, you'll have people holding it at arms length to take shots with inappropriately long lenses and then complaining about the shake!
It is a nice specced camera though. I'm looking forward to seeing one in the flesh - the shots remind me a bit too much of the A3 and SF7 era bodies which weren't a highlight of Pentax design for me. I'm hoping it looks better in the flesh.
On the other hand, I do like being part of a brand that's happy to wander off and do its own thing, fanboys be damned

It looks erm, interesting. It's good that the existing Pentax users can use their lenses. The pancake lens is ultra thin!
The body's almost as big as their DSLR though and no VF.
Fake pentaprism/mirror bodywork annoys me. Whats the point. Could have made it flush and made it smaller or used the space for EVF.

Is this camera replacing the lower end DSLRs (the K-r i think?)? Doesn't seem to be fighting against the usual mirrorless bunch, especially with that size.
Great sensor, great lenses and questionable design, it'll be interesting to see a roadmap for it.

Yes of course. I meant feature wise. APSC on a body the size of this Pentax but with articulated screen and EVF and I'd be sold. Also, with the mirror removed, and using the same back focal distance there's a big cavity inside where they could retract the lens into. They can make it compatible with EF and EFS and introduce a new range of retractable lenses, EF-R or something... One can wish!
I'm guessing that wouldn't have given the pop-up flash enough clearance of the lens bodies, perhaps even not enough for hotshoe mounted flashes.

Ah, I see what you mean, and that does sound like an excellent product.
Canon could make a lot of profit with that kind of product, especially if they released it along with a new range of short primes. I really don't understand why no brand has done it yet actually.

All the advantages of a dslr in an ..er..dslr size body but with no viewfinder or handgrip.....
Seems to me they missed the point here...

they could have made a range of lenses especially for this model, and an adaptor to take the old lenses, that would be the right size to position the lens correctly so they would work properly? You'd get small format body and still be able to use older lens.

after thinking about it, I have to agree...it may have better ISO performance than my K7, but there is really nothing else to tempt me into buying one. I can't imagine anything worse than not having a viewfinder

mmm, surely that would be the Sony A33 & A55?

Technically speaking A33 and A55 have mirrors, but they are locked in place and translucent. However this Pentax concept falls well and truly behind the Sony's offerings due to the lack of any viewfinder.
I hope they will release an add-on later, if that could even work on the hotshoe.

If they made one that fits in the hotshoe you wouldn't be using it at the same time as the inbuilt flash.

Some other failings I see, once again they opt for faster iso at the expense of slower, and god they look cheap! I made the move back to Pentax earlier this year after a long time away and don't regret it at all but I wouldn't buy one of those.
