Don't want to pre-judge the entire camera, but would have preferred if it was not smaller than my K20d. Don't want video either.

However, I'll be interested to see what folk think of it after it has been in use for a while.
Looks like the build quality has been maintained though.

I am not keen on the smaller size either but as I understand it the grip has been made in such a way that should you use one then the camera becomes the same sort of size as a gripped K10D/K20D.

So you have a small body for those that prefer it and larger for the present K10D/K20D user.
 
Small and quiet and video and weatherproof are all good for me.

Another gimmick I'll no doubt use: in-camera HDR.

I think Park are the only UK seller advertising a price, and it's the old dollars to pounds almost 1:1 conversion trick, which is disappointing whereas Pentax UK's seeming denial of the new camera's existence was half expected.

Likewise I think the HDR is just a Gimmick, tried it once .. not impressed.
As for the Pentax UK website, don't get me started .. they announce a camera that is going to be up there with the best of them and dont even mention it on their website .. bloody joke if you ask me.
 
Tell ya what Pentax have really step up a gear on the K7, shame about the UK price though.

But I've no doubt the £1200 price tag will come down over time.
 
hmmmmmmmmm..... new to DSLR..........Penty K-m < 3 months old with twin lens kit.........nice big redundancy cheque looming..........no no no no no..... you are not * (*I am not ) a good enough photographer to make use of this new piece of kit.......

.....and Mrs slapdash "Point&Shoot" will notice that the "twiddly wheel thing" has moved to the left......and other things........ :lol:
 
Yup, price will halve in due course. Be interesting to see what SRS Microsystems start out at, seeing as they deal directly with Japan.

I wonder how capable the sensor adjustments will be for tripod work. It would be great to save most of the weight of my geared tripod head!
 
Certainly will be impressive, but I hope to upgrade the capabilities of a simpler/lighter tripod&head combo for fine control with the on-camera buttons.

The white balance for warm fluorescents sounds good, plus the focus system taking into account the colour temp of the lighting.

Especially disappointing when the current exchange rate is £1 = $1.5779.
 
Pentax UK have now published the details - and they've done a fair job (apart from validating the page), but without really singing the K-7's virtues. Most of the images were uploaded on Monday, though one I checked went up yesterday morning.
 
Haha, plain for all to see on the page of images.

They say any publicity is good publicity, so I hope our keeping the pot boiling is appreciated. ;)

£1200 in Parks for body only.
That's twice the cost of the K20d body.

Not be twice as good or anything like it.
I am not tempted.

For K10D owners such as myself it looks to be a very good upgrade.
I didn't bother with the K20D as it was too much like the K10D in a lot of respects with a few good upgrades (many others did exactly the same) but not enough to tempt me away from my present camera. The K-7 however may just do that.

I'll be interested to see some test results. I read on another forum that at ISO it is noisier than the K20d, but that was put down to it not having the final firmware version.
Just need to wait and see.
 
As far as I know, the K20D MRSP was U$1300 at launch, which is the same as the K-7's. The actual price for the K20D was about U$1130 for the body. Still, it's Sterling that matters to us, and the K20D's price has been stable for months.
 
There is a big price rise in all things Pentax come June 1st apparently.
Chris at SRS has said he has ordered in a fair bit of back stock so things will stay the same for a while but after that we are looking at a fairly hefty jump. This included Pentax bodies and lenses ... presumably not the K-7 though as the price was set knowing the rise was coming.

That is not good. Pentax have a small enough market share as it is.
Immediate effect of that will be to drive more Pentax owners to use 3rd party lenses.
