Pentax K-r ??

Hi,

Quick q's - have you been to a store (jessops or a second hand camera store) and handled as many of the bodies you can (including those on your list) ?


At least then you'll be able to feel the weight, check the size, see whether there are buttons where you want them.


If you are lucky the sales people may let you shoot a shot or two from the entrance to see how they'd do outside.

Then note down your favourites, check online for used prices and for lenses you may want in the future.

I been to Jessops and tried the 110d and liked what I saw, I would now like to compare it with the Pentax Kr. I got the best deal with London Camera Exchange, as I felt Jessops were rushing me into spending more money then I wanted to. All I want is a decent camera and possibly filter. I can get a bag later, my next priority would be to get it insured (the camera that is, not the bag).
 
Get down to your camera shop and play with a few models. There are big handling differences between Pentax and Canon, and indeed other makes as well. Neither is better in an absolute sense but the chances are you'll hate one and love the other.

Yeah with most of them always state straight away you don't have the money and are looking to see which might be worth saving for, turns off those who just want money. Those who stay and assist usually know and wont offer bags etc...

and again :) good luck... hope that you get the camera that does what you want :)

I am going for the Pentaz Kr as it has a stabiliser in the body and not the lens. Anyone else had experience of this model, and is there a thread for it please?

I started out with Sony DSLR's a few years ago, and it was an excellent system to learn with.....the reason I changed brands was purely down to Sony's upgrade path at the time, they had some serious holes in their body and lens line-up. However, I don't think it's as much of a problem as it used to be!! :thumbs:
 
And the old Minolta AF lenses will work on Sony and M42 screw mount lenses too with an adapter.

If you fancy fun with manual focus lenses, the Canons can't be beaten (in the DSLR arena at least). Then you can use:

* Canon AF
* M42 screw mount (manual focus via adapter)
* Pentax K (manual focus via adapter)
* Nikon (manual focus via adapter)
* Olympus OM (manual focus via adapter)
* Contax / Yashica (manual focus via adapter)
* Leica (manual focus via adapter)
* Exakta (manual focus via adapter)
 
Thanks everyone for their help, I am now a proud owner (not user yet) of a Pentax k-r with 18mm to 55mm std lenses. Zoom lens will have to wait a bit.

Now got to learn how to use it, but love the feel of it and feels very robust in comparison to the bridge cameras.

Will post some photos when I have taken something worthy
 
First weekend of really playing with my new K-R - really pleased so far but I think the user still has a lot to learn a couple of quick "bad" examples
