Pentax K100D (super)

So thinking of an 'old tool' route into a proper DSLR to get me in without too much cost to see if I really am into this picture taking malarky. Less than £200...

Pentax K100D (&super) seem to be a great camera from image and basic use, with access to cheaper lenses.

What is advantage of IS in body over lens (if any other than cheap old lens work with it...)?

Will I miss a flash, and if I do, how much for a basic / cheap one to fit?

Good idea to go this route to learn the ropes?
 
The k100d super is an awesome camera had a couple my self in body is means cheaper lenses but a lot of New lenses have it built in even for pentax mount. Image quality is great iso is great to. Lovely little camera. Its has a built in flash but you can pick up a manual flash for about a fiver and up. Had 2 k100d super k200, k20d, k7, gx20 all great image quality.

Had the K100D Super and it was an excellent little camera, has inbuilt flash too

Body IS means every lens you attach will be stabilisied unlike Canon or Nikon that use stabilisation in the lens.

Plenty of older Pentax K fit lenses about and their standard 18-55mm kit lens is pretty decent too, can recommend the 16-45mm f/4 if you wanted to upgrade


Also had a K200D and that was even better, maybe see if you can get one of those, 10mp instead of the K100D 's 6mp. Both cameras use 4 x AA's so get decent rechargeables or energizer lithiums

The bodies are also weatherproof another advantage over some other makes in that price range or see what's for sale

Yes it does, don't think it takes SD cards above 2gb though unless there was a firmware update

Sounds ok to me, good solid camera for the money, don't forget to buy some decent batteries now and enjoy!!
 
Great camera, little bit small but then iv got big hands and thats a small gripe,

loved using all those old manual K fit lenses! my sister has the joy of using it now, along with all the lenses i had acquired :)

reading this does make me lust after another pentax camera now. . .
 
This was my first DSLR, I came from film to a Minolta 7i and then this, great camera, loved Pentax and later got a K200.
